Use a pickaxe on suitable ground in the Springlands and check for the exact inventory item, Springlands Dirt. Removing or shaping terrain with a building tool is a different task; it does not by itself prove that the required soil entered your inventory.[1]

Start with a small collection test
- Find an ordinary patch of ground in Springlands, away from a foundation or path you want to preserve.
- Mine a small area with the pickaxe and read the item gained.
- If you are getting another material, move to a suitable surface instead of excavating an ever larger hole.
- Continue only until you have the recipe shortfall; change to a landscaping tool if your real goal is a flat building surface.
The current guide distinguishes resource collection from the hammer/rake’s shaping role. It also warns against budgeting around old duplication tricks, which this page does not require.[1]
Keep similar soil names separate
| Item | Where it fits |
|---|---|
| Springlands Dirt | Regional terrain input used by recipes such as Goo and Farm Soil. |
| Farm Soil | Farmer craft: seven Springlands Dirt and three Bonemeal make ten. The current recipe lists rescuing Emily Fray as its unlock. |
| Fertile Springlands Dirt | A separate Workbench result. Do not substitute its name for Farm Soil or assume the recipe accepts any “fertile” material. |
The current item pages support those crafting destinations. Their summary counts of total uses are not consistently identical, so this page uses named recipes rather than claiming a complete use count.[2][3]
Budget for an actual result
Choose Farm Soil or Goo below. Farm Soil rounds up to ten-output batches; Goo is one-output crafting. The number shown is a soil/material subtotal, not a promise that the required crafter or station is unlocked.[3][4]
Example: 25 new Farm Soil requires three batches. Budget 21 Springlands Dirt and nine Bonemeal for 30 output, leaving five spare. Fifteen new Goo instead consumes 15 dirt, 15 Bug Dust and 30 Shroud Mushrooms.
If collecting more dirt does not fix the problem
Check the destination: Farm Soil is a Farmer craft; Goo belongs at the Alchemist with its workshop conditions. A full dirt stack does not replace the missing crafter, Salt, Bonemeal or any other named co-ingredient. Work backward from the recipe that is unavailable, then decide whether you need a new trip at all.
