The 1.0 changelog says an existing character’s skill tree resets the first time it is played in 1.0. Reassign the returned points before entering combat or relying on a movement skill you used to have.[1]

Separate an update reset from a manual respec
| Situation | Your next action |
|---|---|
| Returning character, tree empty on first 1.0 load | Inspect the available point total and rebuild. This is the announced update reset; it is not evidence that the character must be deleted. |
| You have allocated points but want a different path | Use the Flame Altar’s skill-reset option and inspect the displayed cost before confirming. |
| A skill feels absent or an old screenshot no longer matches | Read the current node description and connections. Do not assume the old branch order still applies. |
Manual reset is commonly documented as 1 Rune per spent point, but we have not verified that price in the current game interface. Use the displayed price, not a calculated promise from an Early Access screenshot.[3]
Spend points in a working order
- Name your available primary weapon and its actual attack pattern. If a plan depends on a spell or piece of equipment you have not unlocked, choose a usable alternative first.
- Trace the current tree to the skills that make that pattern work. The live-data planner can show connections; a path name alone does not specify every point required.[2]
- Restore the movement skill you intend to use before planning a jump or glide around it. Check what is learned rather than trusting muscle memory.
- Reserve a portion of the remaining points for the failure you encounter: surviving a hit, recovering a resource, or creating distance. Add a second combat identity after the first one functions.
A useful pre-departure check is simple: attack with the intended weapon, use the expected movement action, and inspect the resource cost. This is an editorial rebuilding order based on the changed tree, not an independently measured best build.[3]
Use the current tree without promising a false total
The release increased the character level cap to 50. That does not make “level 50” a complete skill-point budget: world progression and points already collected also matter.[1] Open the current-data skill tree planner ↗ (external site, opens in a new tab) to inspect a path, and keep its game-build label beside any saved plan.[2]
